About the Information Center

wire rope; cross sectionThe Information Center for Ropeway Studies is the largest special collection on the history, theory, design and operation of wire rope systems in the US. The Center was established in 1991 to support research on ropeway technology; it is guided by an Advisory Board of industry members.

Our focus:

  • Materials transport
  • Ski lifts and conveyances; passenger tramways, lifts, and transportation by ropeways
  • Technologies and materials for ropeways

12th International Ropeway Congress 2024

The 12th International Ropeway Congress, sponsored by OITAF, in Vancouver BC, Canada June 17-21 2024: I attended representing the  Information Center for Ropeway Studies, Colorado School of Mines. The Congress had a wide variety of informative presentations; I expanded my understanding of ropeways and thoroughly enjoyed discussions with colleagues -- Lisa Dunn
