Russell L. & Lyn Wood Mining History Archive

Gerald E. Sherard Collection

This Collection's main focus is a compilation of the names of people killed or injured in mine accidents. Geographic coverage is primarily for the United States; but some data is available for Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Dates of coverage vary by geographic region. The files are in .php format, and are updated periodically.

The files below include citations for their sources, listed by number or abbreviation. The key to the cited sources is at the top of each file.

While the Colorado School of Mines Library has many of the sources cited in these files, it does not have all. Try a web search to identify cited sources available online in Hathi Trust or other repositories. You can also check your regional or state library to see if the cited sources are available in your area.

U.S. -- By State

Note -- Much of the US mine accident data comes from reports of state mine inspectors, for example the Annual Report of the Inspector of Mines of the State of Montana, or the Reports of the Inspectors of Coal Mines of Pennsylvania. Some of these reports are openly available in HathiTrust. You can search the HathiTrust catalog for a report series, and search within a report for the name of a miner or a mine.

International -- By Country, Province
