Introduction to Tools

Below are several tools to help you properly authenticate with the Arthur Lakes Library at the Colorado School of Mines in order to properly access online resources including eBooks, eJournals, databases, streaming videos, and more.

Contact the Library if you have questions or need assistance with any of the tools listed below.

LibKey Nomad

Created by Third Iron creators of BrowZine, is a browser extension (also known as a browser plugin or browser add-on) that provides instant links to full-text articles subscribed to by Arthur Lakes Library as well as open access articles.

LibKey Nomad is available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Vivaldi, and Brave browsers. For more information and instructions for adding the extension visit the Download LibKey Nomad site

When enabled, LibKey Nomad will show if we have access to an article by providing a link to the article or directly to the PDF. Here's an example of a citation section from a Wikipedia page to see what we have access to:

Google Scholar

Enable the "View it @ Mines" option in Google Scholar

This option will place a link alongside article results that, when clicked, will send you directly to the full-text of a particular article if it is available either through an open-access or subscription resource.

The best way to understand the use of our link resolver and the View It @ Mines option is to enable it. Here are instructions on how to do so:

  1. Navigate to Google Scholar, and click on the link to Settings in the upper-right of the browser window.
  2. Find the Library Links subsection of the Scholar Preferences, enter Colorado School of Mines into the text box, and click the Find Library button. Google Scholar should retrieve a list of options
  1. Select the option that contains View It @ Mines. Selecting the Open WorldCat option will allow you to link to UNR Libraries catalog holdings through WorldCat if books come up in your Google Scholar results.
  2. Click the Save button.

Proxy Bookmarklet

Use the proxy bookmarklet with your browser

The proxy server bookmarklet lets you connect to databases and journals without going through the library website.  This bookmarklet, when clicked in the bookmarks bar, catches the URL, prepends the Mines Library proxy to it, and then reloads the page.

  • If you go directly to a publisher or organization web page that has access restrictions, this bookmarklet will ask you to log in with your Mines MultiPass and then pass you through to the resource you were looking for.
  • This only works for resources the library subscribes to. (If the library does not subscribe, you can use interlibrary loan to request resources that you need.)

Installing the bookmarklet

Available for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers. Drag and drop the following link onto your browser favorites or bookmarks bar.
