About the Globe

Installed in late October 2020, the Mines' GeoDome Globe is located in the lobby of the CoorsTek Building.  Available all hours the building is open, the Globe is available to everyone.

The Globe was acquired as part of a grant obtained by Frederic Sarazin, professor in the Physics Department.

The Globe measures 60 inches in diameter.  It is made out a transparent plastic.  Mounted under the Globe are 2 projectors, and these shine images up into the Globe.

In front of the Globe is a touchscreen on a podium.  Through the touchscreen, people can choose datasets, learn about the data that is being projected, and spin the globe.

The Globe is hooked into the internet and updates many of the datasets multiple times a week.
