Open Access Funds

The Arthur Lakes Library is soliciting applications for Open Access funds. The purpose of these funds is to enable the expansion of adoption of Open Access publishing at the Colorado School of Mines through providing financial assistance with Article Processing Charges..

Eligibility

Author Eligibility:

This funding opportunity supports Mines-employed authors, including Administrative or Academic Faculty of any rank or type (Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, Librarian and Research Faculty).

Journal Eligibility:

  • Scholarly journals that are peer-reviewed, fully open access and accessible immediately on publication, are eligible.
  • Journals listed in DOAJ: Directory of Open Access Journals are preferred.
  • "Hybrid" journals (journals that publish both open access and closed access articles) are also eligible.

Awards

Awardees will receive up to $1,000 in professional development or research funds. It is expected that these funds be used to cover Article Processing Charges (APC) or reimburse the costs of such charges. Funds are limited and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, up to the cost of the APC, and based on the number of Mines Affiliated authors as outlined below:

  • Single Mines affiliated author up to $500
  • Two Mines affiliated authors up to $750
  • Three Mines affiliated authors up to $1,000

Students and postdocs are considered Mines affiliated authors, but cannot directly apply for funds as they do not have appropriate accounts to receive transfers.

Application and award process

Applicants should fill out the Application Form . A maximum of one application may be submitted per article. Applications for reimbursement for articles published since July 2024 will be considered eligible.

  • Applicants must provide documentation of article submission and acceptance to an Open Access or hybrid Open Access Journal
  • Applicants must provide an invoice of the APC
  • Applications from authors who have or had grant funds available to support APCs will only be considered in the last month of the fiscal year if funds remain available
  • Awarded authors are also required to deposit their article in the Mines Institutional Repository. Should you need help, Seth Vuletich, the Scholarly Communications Librarian, can assist with this step.
