This guide provides Mines community members with information about service availability during service disruptions or shutdown for COVID-19.

Navigating the Library During Coronavirus

As part of our collective effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and out of an abundance of care for the safety of our faculty, staff, and library users, the Arthur Lakes Library closed as of 5:00 pm Wednesday, March 18. Due to the Colorado Stay-at-Home Order, we will remain closed until further notice. Please visit to confirm future library hours.  

All library programs and events for the remainder of the semester (Mindful Monday, Pause for Paws, concerts, etc.) have been canceled.

We have extended loan periods of all items currently checked out. You may still return items via our front entrance book drop.

But your library is still very much open for business- virtually! You can still search for information, access digital resources, consult with librarians, request digital interlibrary loan materials, and more. Please be aware that most services for physical library materials are temporarily suspended, including Prospector lending and interlibrary loan services.

If you should have any questions during this time of closure not answered by this guide or the broader library website, or if we can assist you in any way, please contact me. I or another appropriate library faculty or staff member will respond as promptly as possible.

What Is/Is Not Available Due to Closure?


  • All search functions via library homepage
  • Access to all digital information resources.
  • Virtual information research services with our librarians
  • Interlibrary loan of digital materials (e.g., articles)
  • Prospector access to digital materials (e.g., streaming media)
  • Book return via exterior book drop

Not Available:

  • Physical material checkout of Arthur Lakes Library materials
  • Prospector lending service from regional libraries for physical materials
  • Interlibrary loan of physical materials (e.g. books)

Accessing Online Resources

All Online resources (e-books, e-journals, databases) are available from off-campus via the Library Website. Just locate the resource you need and log in with your Mines Multipass when prompted.

**With Mines' new VPN solution (RAS), journals and databases must be accessed through the library's proxy server. Any of the following methods will ensure full access from off-campus.

  • Use links on the library website: Search | Journals | Databases A-Z
  • Add the proxy prefix before links ( Update bookmarks with this prefix.
  • Use a Browser Extension to load links through the proxy

Interlibrary Loan

If you can't find the digital resource (e.g., articles) you need via the library website, our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) staff stands ready to obtain it for you from libraries around the world.

Due to the library closure, we will not at this time be fulfilling any ILL requests for physical materials.

Prospector consortial lending of physical materials is also suspended during this period of closure. You can still use Prospector to borrow and access streaming video materials beyond those available via the Arthur Lakes Library.
